Talmadge Green, formerly from South Carolina, is now residing in Sandy Hook, Mississippi and is living his dream in the world of professional barrel racing. A sport which was started predominantly for women, barrel racing has grown to be a wealthy, competative sport for all genders and age groups.
Talmadge began his career in 1985, where he finished in the top ten standings. Since then, he has added many accomplishments to his resume', such as becoming the first barrel racer to win $100,000 in one single season aboard a horse named Rare Ghost. This record still stands today. As of 2010, Talmadge's lifetime competition earnings exceed over TWO MILLION DOLLARS.
Talmadge's career consist of many futurity and open wins on horses such as Rare Ghost, Proper Rebel, Dashing ta Roses, VF Sporty Design, Nuttin But A Houndog, Ba Spiderman, Ba Famous Zena, and recently Java Buzz. Next to riding futurity horses, Talmadge also sells open horses through out the United States, Canada, and Brazil. He has a knack of matching a horse to a rider from beginning to professional. Through clinics, seminars, and lectures across the country, Talmadge has been able to share his expert knowledge with others. Top barrel racers who have benefitedfrom his assistance are NFR qualifer, Lindsey Hayes Banks, Old Fort Days Futurity Winner, the late Kevin Rooks, IPRA champion, Jane Melby, and many more.
While his accomplishments continue to add up, Talmadge has looked to the future. The time left after selling and training horses is dedicated to a group of six kids, known as Team Talmadge. Through mentorship of the younger generation of barrel racers, Talmadge will have a lasting legacy for the future of barrel racing.
